Rick Discusses Agile Value

I had a client in the telecom industry who’s IT department was dominated by aggressive programmers. They disrespected Program Management and any type of disciplined Development Life Cycle. They often used the “Extreme Programming” or “Iterative Development” terms to keep from adhering to basic quality value concepts.

“Make sure your developers understand that Agile Development requires more discipline, not less, toward quality assurance and program management. We ALL need to assure that the SPRINT is actually on the track within a lane and not in the grass or through the long jump sand!”

Here’s an article that explores this in more detail:

Reflecting On Agile Methods For Applications Development

June 26th, 2009

While I am not a guru on Agile development methodologies (I defer to my colleague David Norton on these matters), nonetheless it is a topic of discussion on almost every call I do with clients interested in improving their speed of delivery of applications or wanting to improve their understanding of user requirements to deliver the right solution. Agile methods and approaches like Lean, Scrum and eXtreme Programming (XP) are valuable ….

Transforming IT for Lower Cost & Higher Value – Past CIO leading over 400 resources/ Over 15 Yrs Service to CXO’s on IT Value.

Let’s think big and transform IT into a business value creating machine. No more reporting to a CFO or COO and focusing on operations or financials! Let’s focus on transformation and true value. Operating efficiencies and awesome ROI will result if the focus is on transformational value, but seldom happens with a micro focus on operations and/or financials.

CIO’s, let’s think big and make a difference! Let’s become a board room executive and get the other CXO’s to make the difficult decisions that eliminate costs drastically and improves efficiency in orders of magnitude, all of which requires knocking down sacred cows and BOA (business as usual) thinking. Let’s have fun deploying transformational technology that achieves breakthrough business results. Otherwise, we might as well accept being replaced every 18 months trying to please the whim of every business executive who does not want to take any risks.
