I had a client in the telecom industry who’s IT department was dominated by aggressive programmers.  They disrespected Program Management and any type of disciplined Development Life Cycle.  They often used the “Extreme Programming” or “Iterative Development” terms to keep from adhering to basic quality value concepts.

“Make sure your developers understand that Agile Development requires more discipline, not less, toward quality assurance and program management.  We ALL need to assure that the SPRINT is actually on the track within a lane and not in the grass or through the long jump sand!”

Let’s think big and transform IT into a business value creating machine.  No more reporting to a CFO or COO and focusing on operations or financials!  Let’s focus on transformation and true value.  Operating efficiencies and awesome ROI will result if the focus is on transformational value, but seldom happens with a micro focus on operations and/or financials.
